Maritime Get-together - Citizen's Club, Redcar

Branch Get together, 20thJuly 2011.

On Wednesday 20th July, the Dormanstown/Redcar branch held its annual maritime get together in the Redcar Citizens and Priory club. Visitors came from the Hull independent Merchant Navy Association (IMNA), local Royal Navy Association, lifeboat station, coast watch and local ex- merchant seamen. The branch provided a lovely buffet to feed them all. Everyone enjoyed a game of bingo (all in all out) with a young lady won both games. Scotty Duncan, a Redcar based singer provided the afternoons entertainment that was well received. The entire cost of the afternoon, was met by the branch, but a raffle was run with thanks to Welfare Officer Jan Harper with a bit of help from her Brother Ian barnes, and raised £186 that was used to offset the a part of that cost.

This is the third time the branch has organised this event. The branch members also support Hull, Scarborough and Harrogate when they hold something similar, and is in addition to all the branches from Redcar down to Hull, holding a reunion in June of each year at Bridlington.

There can not be a better way of spending and afternoon than to get all these ex-merchant seamen getting together to swing the lamp and tell their stories of days gone by when Great Britain was a world leader in shipping.
